Another WIP It Up Wednesday! As always, thanks to Melody Parks for hosting us and to all the other amazing authors who participate.
As I composed my post I had been waiting over 24 hours for Amazon to approve and list the book. My fingernails had been chewed down, and I was looking up the phone number of an asylum. But it finally arrived tonight, like a baby who is 2 weeks overdue – “just get it out, please!”
Another snippet from Odyssey. Liz has been brought to this estate as “wartime reparations slave” – a symbol of the defeat of her people after they made an unjustified attack on the province she’s now in. It’s been rough, but she’s settling in and learning some surprising things about herself – and recognizing a surprising truth about her parents: her mother was submissive to her father. She’s talking about them with Ryan, the slave trainer, as he feeds her breakfast.
“He’s a lucky man, to have that kind of love,” he said.
“And I know she loves him, but…” she trailed off. There were some things she still didn’t get.
“You’re thinking of your life right now and wondering how she could really truly choose to submit?”
“Yes. Yes, that’s exactly it, Sir.” She was relieved that he seemed to understand almost better than she did.
“You’re doing it because you were forced into it. You’re finding out it’s not all bad, but it still isn’t your choice. She’s doing it for love, and I guarantee you there’s a big difference. It was a willing, conscious choice for her.” He tried to think of an example, then laughed. “Think of it like eating spinach. Some people love spinach; they eat it every day. Others eat it
because their parents made them eat it, and they really haven’t had the chance to discover if they like it themselves; they just know they hate being forced to eat it.”
She laughed, then sobered. “I happen to like spinach.”
Her reached out and touched her cheek. “So do I.”
Liz Peltier becomes a pawn in an old political game that tears her world apart. Forced to serve for the next several years on the estate of her captors, she struggles to accept her new life – a life of domination and submission, of pleasure and pain.
But when she starts to see that her captors may not be the bad guys after all, she grows to realize that her deepest fulfillment comes when she is on her knees.
Liz must ultimately choose to fight these feeling or embrace them. Come along on Liz’s Odyssey from fear to love, and from heartache to home.
That’s all for now, folks. Thanks for reading and please check out all the other amazing authors listed right below. http://www.linkytools.com/thumbnail_linky_include.aspx?id=246135
